If you’re among the more intrepid of VW owners, or your daily travels take you through mud, snow, or rougher terrain, the VW Transporter 4Motion might be the perfect van for you. Here at Swiss Vans in South Wales, we can help you to find the Transporter 4Motion that best suits your lifestyle and requirements. Whether you need better road holding, improved safety, or both, it really is a great van.
Always-on Four-Wheel-Drive System
Volkswagen’s 4Motion system was available on their vans in Europe before it hit the UK market, so you can be assured of tried and tested technology. Alternately known as four-wheel drive (4WD), the VW Transporter all-wheel drive 4Motion system is always on, so there’s never any worry about needing to switch the van manually into the correct setting should hazardous conditions suddenly arise.
VW’s intelligent 4Motion system takes adverse conditions in its stride and adapts to wherever you find yourself. It’s fully compatible with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), off-road ABS, an Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD/EBV) system, and an Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), so if you’re planning some off-road adventures or your current vehicles struggles with where you need to be every day, the VW Transporter AWD could provide you with a great solution.
The system knows when you’re off-road or on difficult terrain, and it distributes the most power to the wheels with the most grip. This is fantastic in the rain, snow, and ice, and it’s also excellent in sand, mud, and gravel. It keeps you stable, ensures that you’ve always got the best traction, and keeps that traction where it needs to be. Once things calm down and AWD is no longer needed, 4Motion goes back to a 40:60 power ratio between the front and rear wheels for everyday driving conditions.
VW Transporter 4Motion Options
The 2022 Transporter 4Motion is based on VW’s Transporter T6.1, so you can expect the same great build and reliable quality that come as standard with every Volkswagen Transporter. You can have 4Motion in your VW Transporter 4×4 in the panel van or kombi models, so no problem if you need to carry a lot of cargo or you need to carry people too. This makes the 4Motion Transporter T6.1 perfect for caravanning or camping, as it can get you to those more remote locations where you really can get away from it all for a few days. Or even longer! (And if you really want an off-road Transporter, you could always look at the VW Transporter Swamper, which of course can include 4Motion instead of the standard FWD!)
As with the standard, front-wheel drive (FWD) Transporter T6.1, the 4Motion van is available in the Startline and Highline trim levels. Each has a great level of specs as you’ll see below, but if you’re also interested in having a van that looks extra-special, you can upgrade to one of our WASP kits, exclusive to Swiss Vans.
The Startline and Highline both have a decent spec as standard, with features including (but not limited to):
- 6.5-inch touchscreen “infotainment” system with DAB radio, Bluetooth, SD card slot and USB port
- Electric front windows
- Heated and electric door mirrors
- A floor-to-ceiling steel bulkhead on panel vans
- A half-height side lining in the cargo portion of the van
- Steel wheels, 16-inch
- A passenger-side sliding side door
- 12v socket
The Highline also gets the extras below:
- Alloy wheels
- Adaptive Cruise Control
