Swiss Vans 3 Month Return-to-Base Warranty
What's covered
Mechanical and electrical failure of the engine, gearbox, drivetrain and electrics.
What's not covered
- Wear items: tyres, brakes, clutch wear, bulbs and other consumables.
- Damage, accident damage and misuse.
- Modifications or repairs that we have not approved.
How to claim
Ring us on 01656 674620 or message us on WhatsApp as soon as you notice a problem, and stop driving the van if it is unsafe to continue.
Return to base
Bring the van back to Swiss Vans, Gees Yard, Coychurch Road, Bridgend CF31 3AP. We carry out the repair at our workshop, and we pay for the labour and parts for a covered fault.
The small print
- Claim limits apply: ask us for the full written terms when you buy.
- The warranty starts on the day you collect the van, or the day it is delivered to you.
- It is for the first buyer and is not transferable unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Your legal rights
A dealer warranty is not a legal requirement, and it never replaces the rights you already have. Nothing in this warranty affects your statutory rights. What those rights are depends on who is buying.
If you are buying as a private buyer (a consumer)
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 says the van must be of satisfactory quality, fit for its purpose and as described.
- 30 days: you have a short-term right to reject the van and get a refund for a fault that was there when you bought it.
- 6 months: a fault that appears in the first 6 months is presumed to have been there at the time of sale, unless we can show otherwise. You then have the right to one repair or replacement and, if that does not fix it, to a refund (which can take account of the use you have had).
- 6 years: you can bring a claim for up to 6 years after you bought the van (5 years in Scotland).
- Buying at a distance: if you bought online or by phone, without visiting our premises, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 also give you a 14-day cancellation right. We may deduct a reasonable amount for wear and mileage.
If you are buying for your business (limited company or sole trader)
The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (cash sales) or the Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act 1973 (hire purchase) still implies a term that the van is of satisfactory quality and as described. Any term that tries to exclude this must be reasonable under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977. A sole trader who buys a van mainly for use outside their trade may still count as a consumer, and have the rights above.
If you are buying on finance
On hire purchase the finance company is the legal supplier of the van. If something goes wrong you can complain to them, and then to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Swiss Vans Ltd is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 668283).
What we tell you must be accurate
Everything we say about a van, in an advert or in person, has to be accurate. This is required by the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the Misrepresentation Act 1967.
